My First Run - Lessons Learnt

So today, I ran.  For the fist time in a long time, I rammed my feet into my running shoes with determination and set off, with the guidance of the 5k Runner App, in an aim to lose the Mummy Tummy before I head off to Vegas.

"You'll love it" they said.  "It gets easier after ten minutes" they said.  "You'll feel so energised" they said.

"They were right" she said.

To be fair, I walked for 5 minutes, then alternated running for 1 minute and walking for 1 and a half minutes six times over, then walked for another 5 minutes to cool down, as per the app.  Not exactly a marathon, but seeing as I've entered a mini marathon with my eight year old cousin in September, I've had to start somewhere.   And a start it is and I feel good.  Ask me again when I've ran a bit further, for a bit longer and you might get a different answer.

However, I did learn some lessons:

  • I DO NOT get on with those stupid ear bud thingys.  Give me proper earphones any day.
  • I don't need to run with the dog on lead, unless I want another (yes, another) face full of mud.  Off lead is fine.
  • But I do need to keep my distance so when he kicks up mud after a wee it doesn't end up on my shins.
  • I also need to remember to take poo bags.  A five minute cool down should not involve flinging leaf covered poos into bushes with my hands.
  • There is a lovely view of my house from the route I took.
  • I don't like running up hill.
I'm sure there'll be more lessons along the way...
